Top tips from Likeminds for tentative first steps in social media

Last Friday, 26 February, I attended Likeminds, a social media conference that opened my eyes and confirmed my instinct that social media has to be included in marketing, PR and all communications strategies.

As some one said on the day, it is like the web ten or fifteen years ago. At the time people were asking “does my business need a web site?” The answer then was yes; and now every organisation has a web site. The world is in the same place now with social media. It can be Twitter, Facebook or whatever you choose – but social media is here to stay. It needs to be learned about, understood, then embraced and then pursued and developed vigorously. (more…)

Likeminds: 6 out of 10; good day, but only a few new top tips to take away

Likeminds was good. The morning was particularly good and I thought that Jonathan Akwue and John Bell were excellent. But, unfortunately, it didn’t wow me as I’d hoped.

Whether I went with the wrong expectations or not I don’t know. It could be because as an immature social media teenager I was seeking answers to specific problems. Certainly one person I talked to, that went expressly to learn as a beginner – and his business could really make use of social media – agreed with me. Whilst it opened his mind, a lot of the content of the day was too much about social media for the sake of social media. Maybe social media beginners need to do as few training sessions before being going to Likeminds. (more…)
